This program’s objective was to promote the confinement of Palmas’ landfill and the works of identification, research and design of a new area for the implementation of a new sanitary landfill by the Palmas municipality.
The confinement works were completed before the filling up of the reservoir, and the town of Palmas established the new landfill, which has been in operation since 2001. In March 2012, a compromise agreement was signed between Investco and Palmas city, when the city acquired the landfill and recognized Investco free of new duties on the landfill area.
Complementary services were also executed in the old sanitary landfill to allow for better flow and drainage of rainwater. The demand for such services was determined after the rainy seasons subsequent to the confinement services conclusion. Thus, the services comprised of terracing and vegetation planting to protect the area.
