Status: Completed

This program took care of the hydrogeology aspects; that is, the groundwater behavior in specific areas around the reservoir, especially urban areas effectively occupied of Palmas and Porto Nacional municipalities. The works occurred during the river phase at the construction’s start and during the reservoir phase following the installation of the Plant.

The data obtained in the river phase allowed for the virtual simulation of the future conditions of monitored areas, thereby guiding the soil occupation process. The reservoir phase data were compared with results obtained by simulation and allowed for the consolidation of an information base that can be used in occupancy planning for these areas.

As an integral part of the activities developed, we highlight the geological-geotechnical mapping complementation initiated during the Basic Environmental Project elaboration, the piezometers installation and the accomplishment of a subsurface study with geophysical surveys and field trials. The studies occurred from November 1999 to December 2003.

The planned actions for this program were completed, and the results obtained didn’t indicate significant impacts on the monitored areas, especially when involving the elevation of groundwater levels in areas that were inhabited before reservoir development. Based on groundwater measurement results obtained during the past 5 years, it was verified that, principally in urban areas, the water table is stabilized, with the elevation in the reservoir ’s bank areas limited to about 100 m from the riverside.
